Composite Technology and Smart Systems

Short course 9-13 June 2008

This is an intensive, one-week short-course introducing the concepts and practicalities of Smart Systems within a Composite Materials context. Delegates will be presented with an overview of composite materials technology and design, together with an introduction to smart composite materials techniques, from an understanding of the principles of guided waves and optical fibres through to lectures from industrialists on commercial perspectives and practical applications (e.g. structural health monitoring for aircraft applications). Dielectric monitoring, self-healing/self-sensing systems and piezoelectric sensor systems will also be explained and discussed.

The content of the lectures, and the lecturers, can be found here.
